My Country represents an aerial view of Utopia and the Bush Yam Seed. The Bush Yam plant is one of the most reliable sources of food found in Delvine’s country. The yam is most abundant after the rain when the root system is at its most prolific stage of regeneration. The Bush yam grows underground with a vine-like shrub that grows above ground up to 1 metre high. The Bush Yam is normally found on spinifex sand plains and produces a large pink or yellow flower after the summer rain. The Bush Yam (‘Anaty’) is much like a sweet potato and can be eaten raw or cooked. It is still a staple food for the desert Aboriginal people where it can be mostly harvested at any time of the year.
