If you are looking for Contemporary Aboriginal art and you want to help support Indigenous communities around Australia at the same time, take a look at our extensive collection at The Artery.
Established in 2005, The Artery is a Contemporary Aboriginal art gallery, bringing you the best and most affordable Aboriginal art available. We have an extensive collection of hand painted, original artworks ranging from $80 - $5000. We are a passionate team of professionals and are dedicated to offering you, the visitor, an experience in culture and history as well as the opportunity to purchase your very own piece of artwork in a friendly environment.
Built on the philosophies of being ethical, contemporary and affordable - we invite you to find out more about us by visiting our Sydney based gallery or browsing our collection of artworks online in the comfort of your own home.
Who are the artists?
Our artworks are all sourced directly from Aboriginal artists who are based in both remote and urban communities around Australia. We have work from a large number of artists, many of whom are internationally renowned and have an extensive following. The fact that we source our artworks directly from the artists means that we can offer them at a reduced cost, and we make sure that the profits go back to the communities rather than to a third party. Since opening the gallery we have become specialists in affordable Contemporary Aboriginal art and have also made it our priority to work directly and ethically with all of our artists.
How to purchase online?
At The Artery you can purchase original Aboriginal artworks at affordable prices either through our gallery in Sydney, or through our website. Browse our collection online and click on the ‘buy it now’ button to make a purchase. Once we receive the funds we will release the artwork and have it delivered to your nominated address. The length of time required for delivery will depend on where the artwork is going and what size it is. We can deliver internationally as well as throughout Australia.
Artworks can be delivered anywhere in Australia either ‘Unstretched- rolled in a tube’ or ‘Stretched – ready to hang’ depending on the artwork itself and your exact location. All international deliveries must be sent ‘Unstretched – rolled in a tube’ as this is the fastest and safest way to send the artworks to other parts of the world.
Almost all of our artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity. The Certificate of Authenticity is provided when an artwork is purchased and will contain the artist name and language group, where they are from, along with specifics about the individual artwork.
Certificates of Authenticity are part of the Indigenous Art Code, which is a voluntary program, implemented with the intention of contributing to the wellbeing of Indigenous Australians by ensuring that the art trade is fair and regulated. Participation is voluntary at this stage, and is a way for art dealers to show their commitment to fairness and transparency of business dealings with Aboriginal artists. The Artery is a proud member of the Indigenous Art Code of conduct, since it’s launch back in 2011.
The Certificate of Authenticity is also an important document, which identifies the unique and individual Dreaming story told by each artist. Although each individual artwork is original and hand-painted, many Aboriginal artists paint the same subject many times; this is why the Certificate of Authenticity is required to identify one piece from another.
